…in business and to thank the local community for their support, the owners of the Union Street Tavern held the First Annual Union Street Tavern Trot in September of 2007. The Union Street Tavern Trot was organized as a charitable event with its beneficiary being Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national charitable organization dedicated to childhood cancer research. Alex’s Lemonade was chosen for two reasons—their outstanding reputation for funding childhood cancer research and their local ties—its founder, Alexandra Scott, lived in Windsor where her parents, Liz and Jay Scott, grew up.
Over 350 runners and walkers showed up for that first year and raised $5,000.00 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, an impressive start for a brand-new road race. Since then, the Union Street Tavern Trot has grown by leaps and bounds. Nearly 1000 runners and walkers participate each year and numerous national and local businesses sponsor the event. To date, the Union Street Tavern Trot has raised over $575,000.00 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
The Union Street Tavern Trot is held every year...
…on the third Sunday in September and features a beautiful road and trail course through Windsor Center, Loomis and the River Trail. The first 600 registrants receive dri-fit tee shirts as part of their registration fee. While the race itself is impressive, with chip timing, prize money and a USATF certified course, it is the post-race festivities that really stand out. The Party in the Parking Lot features free food and beer along with live music. Awards given out for first, second and third place in each age group for men & women, along with cash prizes for the top four male and female finishers.
One hundred percent of the money raised by the Union Street Tavern Trot goes to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The Union Street Tavern Trot, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
